Electric Painting #1

For a while I’ve been playing with the idea of an Electric Painting. I wanted to comply with some of the accepted conventions of painting, but using my own set of materials.

The flood fill was considered kind of crude at the time, but proves to be a delightful analogue to Warhol’s signature graphic style.

These paintings were purchased by my father Graham Carter in Nigeria in the 1960’s. I’ve known them all my life. The figures are so graceful and composed of a few brush strokes.  

Vilhelm Hammershøi

Danish painter Vilhelm Hammershøi is known for his outstanding treatment of light and his enigmatic, subtly mysterious subjects.The woman (thought to be his wife) who features in many of his paintings always faces away from the viewer.
