One day I discovered an exercycle that had been left on side of the road. I carted it back to the studio with the idea of doing something interesting with it. The next weekend I saw two more similar exercycles going cheap at the local Tikipunga market.
For a while i’ve been thinking about how to make a collaborative game that can work in a public space, so the idea of a band played by exercycles was born.
I set up the cycles for the Quarry Arts open day. Really, this was the first proper test of my idea and I had no idea if it would actually work.
The response was overwhelmingly positive and appealed to people of all ages. The current version is a kind of trance/hip hop feel. I want to do a death metal version too, and one with just classical instruments to see if that is possible.
